Plumbing SEO

Local SEO Services for Plumbers

If you've been paying for SEO for a few months, you should be able to tell whether it's bringing more customers through the door.

An agency might show you backlinks, website traffic and ranking reports. But none of those things pays your bills if the phone isn't ringing.

When someone searches Google for a plumber, they often look at the businesses that appear first, glance at the reviews and call the one they trust. They might never visit your website.

That means where your Google Business Profile appears can make a real difference to how many opportunities your business gets.

And here's something a lot of business owners overlook: you don't necessarily need hundreds of reviews to compete.

You Don't Need 200 Reviews to Get More Calls

We have a client in Brantford whose Google Business Profile has just 18 reviews. They're appearing ahead of much more established businesses with hundreds of reviews.

Think about that for a second. A competitor can have 200 reviews, but if they're sitting down at position 10 while your business appears first or second, you're in a much better position to get noticed.

Most people aren't going to work their way through every business on Google before making a call. The businesses they see near the top have an opportunity to win their attention first.

We have also worked with a client whose competitors have thousands of reviews, while their own profile has fewer than 50.

Before working with us, they had received just 3 calls from Google in the previous 90 days.

Over the following 90 days, that number increased to 57 calls, averaging 19 per month.

That's the kind of difference worth paying attention to.

Reviews absolutely matter. They help potential customers decide whether to trust you, and Google considers review information when determining local prominence. But review count alone does not determine who ranks first.

Google also considers relevance and distance, among other signals. A business with fewer reviews can outrank a competitor with many more.

The question isn't how many reviews your competitors have. It's why they're appearing ahead of you, and what you can do to compete.

Three Things I'd Check on Your Google Business Profile

1. Find out where you're actually appearing

Search Google for your main services, such as "plumber in [your city]" or "drain cleaning in [your city]."

Look at which businesses appear in the local results. Compare their profiles with yours, including their services, reviews, photos and business information.

Then check from different parts of your service area. Your visibility can change depending on where the search takes place, so checking once from your office doesn't tell you the whole story.

A local ranking heatmap can help you see where your business is showing up and where competitors are getting ahead of you.

2. Make sure Google understands what you do

Check your primary business category, relevant additional categories, listed services, business hours, phone number and service area.

If you want more calls for drain cleaning or water heater installation, make sure your profile accurately reflects those services. Don't add irrelevant categories or claim to serve areas you don't cover.

These details help Google understand which searches your business is relevant to. Our Google Business Profile guide for plumbers walks through each of these settings in detail.

3. Make your business worth calling

Ask satisfied customers for honest reviews after completing jobs. Respond professionally to feedback, upload genuine photos of your work and keep your profile information accurate.

You don't need to post something every day just to look active. You need a profile that gives potential customers confidence in the business they're considering.

And don't buy reviews or offer rewards for positive ones. Build your reputation through genuine customer experiences.

Stop Paying for Reports. Start Looking at the Calls.

Rankings are useful. Reviews are useful. Profile views can be useful.

But if you're investing money to get more customers from Google, you need to look at what happens beyond those numbers.

How many calls are you receiving? How many are genuine enquiries? How many turn into booked jobs?

Keep track of your inbound calls and compare consistent periods before and after making improvements. Where possible, separate organic Google calls from paid advertising, referrals and other marketing channels.

That way, you can make better decisions about where your marketing money is going, instead of relying on a report that never tells you whether the work is turning into business.
